Person-Centred Counselling is a person-to-person, (mostly) talking therapy which enables clients to move fully forward in their lives.
After formal training in the 1990s (please see the About Me page for details) and subsequent learning, both structured and unstructured, I'm offering Person-Centred (originally known as Client-Centred) Therapy to individuals.
The Person-Centred Approach
My approach is primarily informed by the work of Carl R. Rogers (1902-1987).
I've experienced PC (Person-Centred) Counselling as the most valuable healing/learning process of all those that I've engaged with, and I trust that you too can find it to be so, experiencing a wider exploration of, and closer acquaintance with yourself as a result of your sessions with me.
Why Choose Person-Centred Counselling?
PC Counselling is suitable for you if you're in acute distress (perhaps diagnosed as "depressed" or "anxious" for examples), or if you just want an extra element to your conscious personal growth. I provide an environment where you can feel safe, valued and understood.
I've used the term Counselling/Psychotherapy to indicate my ability to work at whatever depth you choose, and for as long as you need, the process being the same for both, in the Person-Centred approach. PC Counselling is non-directive and egalitarian.
Benefits of PC Counselling
- Increased self-awareness and self expression
- Greater self-acceptance
- Improved relationships and communication skills
- Increased independence
- Enhanced ability to cope with challenges and setbacks
- A greater sense of personal fulfilment and well-being
Your Person-Centred Counselling Session
- I work confidentially, within legal and safeguarding limitations, always with your safety in mind, in all my work.
- I'm fully insured for this work.
- I provide sessions of at least 1 hr duration, due to practical limitations, working at Cwtsh on Stow Hill, Newport.
- I don't allow smoking or vaping during sessions, for my own health.
- For more about the PC approach, I recommend "Client-Centred Therapy and "On Becoming A Person", both by Carl R. Rogers.
My fee is £60/hour, negotiable according to your circumstances. I can take cash, or payment by direct bank transfer. For cash, I prefer payment no later than the start of a session and I require payment by the end of a session. For bank transfer, I require payment no later than 1 hour before the start of a session.
Cancellation/Lateness policy: Please inform me as soon as you can, if you need to cancel a session. I will do the same if I need to cancel. Except in case of emergency, the following policy applies: I'll charge you 1/2 the session fee if you cancel less than 45 minutes before the session is due to start. If you're late, I'll wait for you for 15 minutes after a session is due to start, after that I consider the session cancelled by you without notice and I charge you 1/2 the session fee.
